Carrie walked into a Goodwill Career Center two years ago, after coming out of a justice involvement situation and being on federal probation. She felt lost but hopeful as she was also newly sober and ready to be the mother and employee she knew she could be.

After trying three times to get hired at Goodwill, Carrie finally made the cut and started as a Store Associate, later being promoted to Pricer. Soon, she was also working with the Career Navigator at Flowing Wells, Misty Villagomez. With Misty’s steady guidance and support, she was able to get begin working on her GED, and on getting her Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card. Carrie knew this process could take several tries, given her recent justice involvement, but to her surprise, she was able to receive it on the first try!

Misty says Carrie is living proof that if you work hard, show up every day, take advantage of the free resources at the Goodwill Career Centers, and refuse to give up, it is never too late to start over. Carrie felt alone and unsupported before walking into that first Goodwill Career Center, and now her future is bright and she has a cheerleader – Misty! – rooting her on.
