The Village: A Community Violence Intervention Program

What is CVI?

Community Violence Intervention (CVI) is a broad approach across system partners and the community, bringing together community members, social service partners, and government to prevent violence, strengthen neighborhood resilience, and build trust.

How is Goodwill Problem Solving?

Goodwill’s The Village Program is a community violence intervention (CVI) program and hospital-linked violence intervention program (HVIP). With the intent to reduce crime throughout the Tucson community, The Village Program provides trauma-informed intervention and case management services to people at risk or injured by community violence. The program team coordinates services and resources with community agencies, county services, healthcare professionals, and community groups in the city of Tucson. This program is grant-funded by the Department of Justice.

Straight Talk

This interactive, skill-based workshop from ROCA helps young people pause, think, and make safer choices. By teaching participants how to move beyond survival-mode reactions, it reduces violence and supports long-term well-being.

Tucson Violence Intervention & Prevention Planning Council

Quarterly gun violence impacted-community members meeting to build relationships and develop strategies for a safer community.

Bereavement Group

Eight-week workshop series in partnership with Tu Nidito for youth ages 12-24 who have experienced grief and loss. It provides a safe space to share their experiences and learn healthy coping skills.

Bereaved Fathers

Monthly support group for male family members of individuals lost to gun violence providing a space for healthy masculinity within grief.

Community Conversations

A community-based event inviting the public to share their experience with community/gun violence and offer their ideas for positive change.

Parents of Murdered Children (POMC)

Monthly support group for any parent or guardian of individuals lost to gun violence.

Healing Justice

A 28-week leadership and mentorship program for ages 18-24 focused on understanding and healing from violence, building healthier and safer relationships, and becoming a leader in the community.

Men’s Education Program

A 26-week class to focused on helping men ages 18+ identify controlling, violent and harmful behaviors, take responsibility, and create safer communities.

HEAT

A culturally rooted program designed for Black men ages 16-24, with justice involvement that focuses on mental health, substance use, empowerment, and redefining Black manhood.

The Legacy Program

An eight-week program for young Black men ages 16-24, to explore identity, racism, and Black masculinity while developing leadership skills to disrupt cycles of violence.

Healing in Justice

Designed for young women ages 16–24, this program helps participants understand how violence has shaped their lives and learn safer ways to navigate challenges. Through supportive sessions, they build tools for healing, healthy relationships, and leadership.

CVI Specialists:

Trusted mentors with lived experience who meet youth where they are, remove barriers, and connect them to support.

Data Analyst:

Tracks referrals and services while coordinating impactful workshops and programs.

Village Manager:

Leads the team, builds partnerships, and ensures high-quality support for youth.
