Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona Statement

Goodwill of Southern Arizona is committed to supporting the victims, their families, our employees, and the community in the wake of this tragic incident. Our staff and leadership team continue to work closely with both families as we grieve for Juan and hold the recovery of our other employee in our thoughts. Goodwill of Southern Arizona is committed to supporting the victims by covering all medical expenses and providing the families with additional financial assistance, lost wages, and wraparound support services.

Goodwill’s efforts and action on this situation are mostly done quietly as to not pull focus away from where it is needed most: supporting the families and seeking justice for this senseless crime.

Our Community Violence Intervention (CVI) team, established in 2023, has been working closely with the families throughout the entirety of this incident, with staff onsite in the hospital to provide direct support. Our CVI team has also reached out to friends and community members who have been impacted.

For our Goodwill employees, we continue to offer free mental health assistance in order to provide a safe space and time to talk through and process the weight of this terrible act.

Ways to help

If you want to pitch in to support the victims, here are several ways you can contribute.

Goodwill Industries of Southern AZ has established a fundraising campaign which will be split 50/50 between both families. You can contribute to that campaign here: Donate to Goodwill Victim’s Fund

100% of the funds raised through the GISA-established campaigns will go to the families

The Flores family has established a GoFundMe campaign to further help the family of Juan Cristobal Flores. You can find and contribute to it here: Fundraiser for Alma L Flores by Lily Waer : Stand with Juan Cristobal Flores: Local Opera Singer

Memorial Concert – Juan Cristobal Flores: Catalina United Methodist Church on January 16 at 7 p.m.

We are absolutely heartbroken today. The entire Goodwill community is in mourning.

The brightest of lights, taken far too soon. Rest in power Juan Cristobal Flores.
