Sustainability

Earth Day is Every Day!

Goodwill®…not the landfill! As a 501(c) nonprofit organization, Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona takes multiple steps to ensure that we gain the maximum value for goods that are sold and donated to our organization. These steps help us operate efficiently and account for the sales that fund programs that help people stay employed and supported. Our e-commerce department uses sustainable packing materials and has invested in equipment to help minimize cardboard conception while also helping recycle any excess materials.

Your donation to Goodwill Industries of Southern AZ is not only a way to recycle and live sustainably–our job training and placement programs yield social and economic benefits as well! We partner with local Tucson organizations to make sure nothing goes to waste, whether it’s canning jars donated to Iskashitaa or blankets donated to Pima Animal Care Center! To find out more about our local partners, go to our Community Recycling Partners page.

Thrift store Recycles

At Goodwill, every donation we receive is a way to give back to the community & recycle. Southern Arizona is passionate about protecting the open spaces of our beautiful desert home and so are we.

Goodwill is committed to sustainable principles with one of our core guiding values being:

We provide excellent management of community and environmental resources.

The environmental impact of each piece of clothing or furniture you donate adds up fast. Did you know it takes over 1,800 gallons of water to create one pair of jeans. Now just imagine the lifetime of your shopping and donation behaviors have on the environment. You can help dramatically slow the cycle of waste with a simple trip to Goodwill.

37 million pounds in 2023/2024!

  • Donating a gently used item to Goodwill diverts it away from Southern Arizona’s landfills!
  • By shopping at Goodwill®, you can give an item a second (or third) life!
  • Your shopping trips and donations support local programs for youth and adults in need!

We did it! We diverted over 37 million pounds of donations from Southern Arizona’s local landfills. We could not have done that without the support of all of our donors across our region! From Casa Grande down to Sierra Vista every bag of clothes makes a difference. With your continued generosity, we can keep that number growing every year.

TUCSON ZERO WASTE
