🎉Congratulations to a very important part of our Community Violence Intervention team and youth participant, ✨Joseph Carusillo✨, for being awarded the Community Champion award through the Liberty Partnership Kino Neighborhoods Council. Below is the nomination written & presented by Faye McCorry, our Academic Specialist at the Metro Youth Center.
“Joseph wasn’t always invested in community, or himself for that matter. He connected with the Goodwill Youth Reengagement Centers in 2019, and while he had many personal struggles, he was persistent. Eventually he earned the role of part-time peer outreach specialist for the centers, helping support other youth experiencing similar struggles. He later took a full-time position elsewhere in the company, and recently returned to the centers to help lead out on a new community violence intervention program. Joseph is thriving in the centers offering encouragement, support, and guidance to fellow youth, while also working to help reduce gun violence in our
community by building connections with young people who may lack support and resources. Joseph understands that building a stronger community requires hard work, time, and compassion; and he’s dedicated toward creating meaningful and lasting change.”
