Zero Waste Tucson

On April 16th Goodwill helped host the inaugural Zero Waste Tucson event in partnership with the City of Tucson, Pima County, Tucson Clean & Beautiful and our longtime partner Mrs. Green. The event was held at the City of Tucson Environmental Services building down at 4004 S Park Ave on Saturday from 9AM – 1PM. The marketing team along with Adrian from transportation with help from some great volunteers at TEP collected donations and greeted our generous donors throughout the day. As a drive by collection event, we were joined by other organizations collecting various household items from the community. TPD collected expired medication, Recyco collected scrap metal, Beacon provided secure paper shredding, American Legion collected Flags and the list goes on.

You can learn more about the Zero Waste Event and the various participating organizations at: TucsonZeroWaste.com

The goal of the event is to give people in Tucson and the surrounding areas a resource to responsibly reuse and dispose of items that they no longer have a need for. The collection drive itself was great and we were able to fill a truck but the committee sees this more as an opportunity to educate Southern Arizona on what to do with these various items every day of the year. The zero waste website will be resource that stays up year round with tips and links to local recycling resources. We are proud to be a part of an event like Zero Waste Tucson because sustainability is important to GISA and the future of Southern Arizona. We hope to continue to grow the event and the collaboration with the founding partners and participating local green minded organizations.
