For young adults involved in the justice system it can seem like there are few paths forward, but GISA has refreshed a program aimed to be a guiding light and opportunity engine. Project Restore is a young adult re-entry program for 18- to 24-year-olds who have been or are currently involved with the juvenile or adult justice system. The goal of Project Restore is to introduce and prepare justice involved youth for the modern workforce through placement into paid work experiences and on a path to more equitable career opportunities.

Additionally, the program provides occupational education and training in in-demand industries, leadership development, a mentorship component, and post work experience placement into unsubsidized employment or post-secondary education.

“Here at GISA, we are very excited to see the refresh and growth of a program that brings so much impact to the future of our community by providing pathways today for our opportunity youth and justice impacted young adults,” expressed Program Manager, Bear Barley.

The relaunch of Goodwill’s young adult re-entry program sees the return of many benefits to develop the skills for success in the modern work landscape, including:
• Paid work experience and on the job training
• Needs assistance, supportive services and academic services
• Financial aid application assistance and tuition assistance when applicable
• Connection to legal services (record expungement and sealing)
• Financial literacy workshops

Additionally, Project Restore introduces new group-focused activities to create a support system with peers for these young adults. These group led activities focus on topics aimed to develop and strengthen soft skills through coaching and group work activities. The program provides access to Community Violence Intervention (CVI)- violence prevention mentorship programs, bereavement groups and opportunities to interface with employers to gain valuable interviewing skills. Project Restore is encouraging growth in the community.
