“DO YOU HEAR ME NOW?” is a collaboration event between Goodwill and United Way that focuses on informing youth about the importance of voting. Held on 9/21, the event took place at the Goodwill Re-engagement Center (REC).
The talk held between staff and the youth centered around: why people felt the need to not vote, how politics can be confusing, along with any roadblocks that make voting difficult. A meal was also served during this conversation, allowing the youth to get their munch on while participating.
Voting can be a good way to get your voice heard, especially for youth (18-24) that aren’t sure of a way to do so. If youth vote, then they’ll be heard, even in the bigger picture. It’s important to have these sort of discussions, even if folks do not want to vote, it’s better to be informed of what is going on in the current political climate than to be apathetic and unaware.
Thanks goes out to the efforts of REC’s own Samuel Turner and Myleigha Truitt, who organized this event and made it possible.
